Growing Cilantro

I have tried to grow cilantro many times over the years...and every time it bolts.  Which is really frustrating because we eat a ton of cilantro! Well I finally found the secret! Contrary to what I've been told in the past, cilantro likes the cool weather. The herb garden that I planted a few years ago needed some refreshing. So this fall I replanted it with cilantro, Italian parsley, oregano, marjoram, thyme, and chives. I've been harvesting the cilantro weekly and getting a big handful, which is enough for this family of three's cooking needs. I love the smell of fresh cilantro! Now I'm plotting to plant a nice shade garden on the north-facing side of our house this summer so that we can have cilantro year round!

This morning I picked a bunch for a large batch of guacamole that we're making. We're lucky enough to live in a place where avocados are abundant year round! What are you growing in your garden this winter?

Guacamole! A little taste of heaven!
